Pollinators 1.11.15 Milk Jug Greenhouses

Sharing some photos from our Second Sunday Pollinators (age 12-17) January workshop. What do you think?

We experimented with four different size jugs as mini greenhouses
Setting up workshop space in the GEC greenhouse – sorry no action shots, my hands were dirty!

You can build your own using this youtube video, or try it with the family at our next Nature Play Family Day on January 18.

Thanks to:

  • Our inspiration came from last month’s Nature Play guest, our town Director of Conservation Denise Savageau, who sent us the video, and this link about winter seed sowing:  http://mynortherngarden.com/how-to/how-to-grow-wildflowers-in-winter-sowing-containers/
  • Our seeds came from a wildflower seed storing workshop with the Greenwich Land Trust.
  • The Greenwich Land Trust also helped us to plant an elementary school pollinator garden and Monarch Waystation last year.  These mini greenhouse plants will go towards refreshing that garden, and also building a new Monarch Waystation here behind our greenhouse.
  • We had assistance, and jug donations, from Helen Loughrey, a certified Permaculture Design Course instructor and design consultant.  It was inspiring to dig in and learn from her about leaders in smart and simple, “appropriate technology” design.  Really looking forward to her GEC Permaculture workshop on January 31st!  For more information, or to register CLICK HERE.
