Explore the Secrets of Soil with your family

Come Celebrate with your Family and invite your friends – it’s like a town soilebration!

April 26, 1-4 pm, at the Garden Education Center, 130 Bible Street, Cos Cob, CT

The GEC is excited to be the location of this year’s Town of Greenwich  Earth Day Month Celebration on Sunday.  Don’t miss it!  The theme is soil and its hands-on, so you’ll be “digging deeper” into fun and important ideas.

I love a fresh start, don't you? Here's a sprout in our greenhouse vermicomposting bin
In our vermicomposting bin you can see:  soil is full of life!

From the Town of Greenwich Conservation Commission: This year is the International Year of the Soil. Through a variety of fun and scientific activities designed for the entire family, we will walk you through the soil formation process, soil properties, its need for conservation and care. With help of local archeologist, composting crew, and experts on soil, we will visit every aspect of this topic and answer all of your questions whether they are big or small.

Please spread the word!  I’ll be there as one of the Master Composter volunteers.  Can’t wait to see you all!

  1. So glad we could be a part of this event. Here’s one really great comment from a visiting parent, “our teacher sent us an email and recommended we come.” That’s the best endorsement – thanks, teachers!

  2. Great news! Visiting classroom to the GEC next week will receive a tour of the greenhouse with Director of Horticulture, a special planting activity, a plant search in the Pinetum, AND a visit to the soil classroom, thanks to our special guest from the Town of Greenwich. It’s a partnership that grew naturally from this event, and great for students.
